Teeth Whitening for Sensitive Teeth — Christchurch

Over 90% of our clients experience zero sensitivity. Here’s how.

Tooth sensitivity is the most common reason people put off professional whitening — and we completely understand. But with the right gel, the right technology, and 20+ years of experience, sensitivity is rarely an issue at The White Smile Company.

Why Our Treatment Works for Sensitive Teeth

Our gel minimises sensitivity
We use a UK dentist-grade whitening gel with a neutral pH and specific anti-sensitivity ingredients — very different from the harsh formulas that cause burning and discomfort.

Our light runs cooler
Our halogen, LED and ultrasonic technology runs at a lower temperature than many standard LED machines, reducing heat transfer to the tooth — one of the main causes of whitening sensitivity.

We know what we’re doing

Tips Before Your Appointment

  • Switch to Sensodyne toothpaste at least one week before your appointment and brush twice daily
  • Let us know about your sensitivity when booking — we’ll make a note
  • If you experience any discomfort during treatment, just tell your technician — we can adjust at any point

Custom Trays: A Great Option for Sensitive Teeth

For clients with significant sensitivity concerns, custom whitening trays can be an excellent alternative or complement to laser whitening.

With trays, you control the pace — shorter sessions, breaks between applications, and a lower-concentration gel. Because the trays fit perfectly, gel stays where it should and doesn’t touch your gums (a common irritation cause with generic trays).

Custom trays are $250, or just $150 when combined with laser whitening.

FAQ — Sensitive Teeth

Q: Is it safe if I have sensitive teeth?
Yes, in the vast majority of cases. Our neutral-pH professional gel is significantly gentler than most over-the-counter whitening products.

Q: What if I feel sensitivity during the treatment?
Tell your technician immediately — we’ll pause, adjust, or modify as needed.

Q: Will sensitivity be permanent?
No. Any post-treatment sensitivity is temporary, typically resolving within 24-48 hours.

Q: Can I whiten with crowns or fillings?
Yes, though whitening gel only works on natural tooth enamel — not crowns, veneers, or fillings. These will be cleaned back to their original shade but won’t whiten further. If you’re planning dental work, whiten first so your dentist can match the new work to your new shade.
