There are so many things to think about before your wedding. Your smile shouldn’t be one of them.
Whether you simply want beautifully whiter teeth for the day, or you’ve always felt self-conscious about your smile, professional whitening can make a surprisingly big difference to how you feel in front of the camera.
And unlike most things you organise for your wedding, you’ll still be looking at the photographs years from now.
For most people, one laser whitening treatment is all they need to achieve a beautifully bright, natural result.
I usually recommend coming in around 3–6 weeks before your wedding. Not because you’ll necessarily need another treatment — most clients won’t — but because it gives you options.
Laser whitening will generally take your teeth towards the lightest end of their natural shade range. If that’s exactly what you’re looking for, you’re done.
If you decide you’d love to go even brighter — towards that very white, more bleached look — you’ve still got plenty of time to continue with custom trays or have a follow-up treatment.
And if your wedding is next week? Don’t panic. You haven’t missed your chance. A laser treatment takes around 65 minutes and can make a significant difference in a single appointment, so whitening in the week before your wedding can still be absolutely worthwhile.
If you’re coming to see me a couple of months before your wedding and you want your teeth as white as possible, my favourite option is laser whitening followed by custom trays.
The laser gives you the big initial change. Your trays then let you gradually take your teeth brighter at home until you’re completely happy with the shade.
And because they’re yours to keep, you can give your smile a little refresh before the hen party, wedding day, honeymoon — or whenever you want it.
One thing I always mention to brides: think about the other smile in those photographs too.
Beautifully white teeth can sometimes make the contrast with a partner’s teeth more noticeable — and wedding photographs are forever. Once you notice the difference, it can be very hard to unnotice it.
I whiten plenty of couples before their wedding, and it’s lovely when they do it together.
Although I’ll admit… not every groom can be persuaded.

Some of my wedding clients simply want their teeth looking their absolute best for the day. For others, it’s something much more personal.
If you’ve spent years smiling with your mouth closed, worrying about your teeth in photographs or instinctively hiding your smile when a camera appears, a wedding can suddenly make that feel much bigger. There are going to be cameras everywhere.
My goal isn’t to give everyone the same brilliant-white smile. It’s to find out what you want, show you what’s realistically possible with your teeth, and help you get there.
So when someone points a camera at you on the day, hopefully you’re thinking about everything except your teeth.
No. It’s my ideal timeframe because it gives you the option to go further if you decide you want to. If your wedding is much closer, laser whitening can still make a significant difference in one appointment.
For most clients wanting a naturally bright white smile, yes. Most see around 10–14 shades of improvement from their laser treatment. If you’re starting with already-white teeth or want a particularly bleached-white result, we can talk about taking things further.
If you have plenty of time and want maximum control over how white you go, I’d choose laser + trays. If you’re looking for a beautiful result in one appointment, laser alone is often all that’s needed.
They certainly don’t have to. But I do recommend considering it. If one person’s teeth are significantly whiter, the contrast can sometimes become noticeable in close-up photographs. Plenty of my couples whiten together — and plenty of partners still take some convincing!
